Ultimate Grand Teton Elopement Guide: Everything You Need to Know

There’s something truly magical about a Grand Teton elopement. If you’ve ever seen those jagged peaks stretch into the sky or watched the way the light hits the mountains at sunrise, you’ll know what I mean. It’s a place where you can breathe deeply, feel grounded, and say your vows with nothing but nature around you.

Eloping here gives you the chance to skip the stress and focus on what really matters—your love story. Whether you’re standing by the shores of Jenny Lake or sharing your first kiss as newlyweds in a quiet field with the Tetons behind you, every moment feels like it belongs in a dream (a very real, beautiful dream!).

Before we dive in, I’d love to introduce myself. I’m Roslyn—a wedding and elopement photographer based in Jackson Hole, and I specialize in capturing love stories in the wild, beautiful places where they unfold. If you’re planning a Grand Teton elopement and want someone who cares deeply about your story, I’d be honored to be part of your day. You can check out my work here or see if your date is available—I’d truly love to connect.

Best Time of Year to Plan A Grand Teton Elopement

Choosing the right time for your Grand Teton elopement can make a big difference. The Tetons are beautiful all year long, but each season brings its own vibe—and a few things to think about.

  • Summer (late June through early September) is the most popular time. The weather is usually warm, the wildflowers are in bloom, and the trails are clear. You’ll get those classic mountain views, and sunrise or sunset ceremonies are especially dreamy this time of year.
  • Fall (mid-September to early October) is absolutely magical. The aspen trees turn golden, the crowds thin out, and the air gets crisp. It’s one of the most peaceful times for a Grand Teton elopement.
  • Spring sounds lovely—but it’s honestly not the best time to elope here. The snow starts melting, and that means mud. A lot of it. Some roads and trails remain closed, making it challenging to navigate or locate suitable ceremony spots.
  • Winter can be stunning too—imagine snow-covered peaks and cozy vibes—but it takes some extra planning. Access is limited, making it ideal for couples who are ready for adventure (and are prepared for chilly noses!).

Best Grand Teton Elopement Locations

One of the best things about a Grand Teton elopement is that you truly can’t go wrong with the scenery. Everywhere you turn, it feels like a postcard come to life. But some spots really stand out, whether you’re dreaming of mountain views, peaceful lakes, or wide-open meadows. Here are a few of my top picks:

Schwabacher Landing

This one is a favorite for a reason. The reflection of the Tetons in the water is unreal, especially at sunrise when everything is still and golden. It’s easy to access and perfect for couples who want those iconic views without a long hike.

Mormon Row

If you’ve ever seen a photo of a rustic barn with mountains in the background, this is probably it. It’s historic, charming, and gives your elopement a classic Wyoming feel.

Jenny Lake

This spot is pure magic. You can hike around the lake, take a short boat ride, or just enjoy the peaceful shore. It’s romantic, quiet, and has tons of little nooks for private vows.

Snake River Overlook

This one’s more of a quick stop, but it’s packed with drama. You get sweeping views of the Tetons and the winding river below—it’s a great pick if you want those “wow” shots with very little effort.

Hidden Gems

There are also lesser-known spots I love sharing with couples who want something truly private. Whether it’s a quiet grove, a mountain trail, or a meadow full of wildflowers, I’ll help you find the right place for your day.

What to Pack and Wear for a Grand Teton Elopement

For your Grand Teton elopement, comfort, layers, and a bit of adventure-ready style go a long way. The weather can shift quickly, so be prepared and keep it simple.

What to Wear

Choose outfits that feel like you and suit the setting—opt for flowy dresses, relaxed suits, and boots over dress shoes. Layer up with a jacket, shawl, or blanket, as sunrise and sunset can be chilly. And yes, sturdy shoes are a must.

What to Pack

  • Wedding outfits and hangers

  • Comfy shoes or boots

  • Warm layers

  • Water and snacks

  • Sunscreen and bug spray

  • Vow books

  • Marriage license and permits

  • Tissues

  • A small backpack

  • Special keepsakes (photos, rings, heirlooms)

Building a Meaningful Elopement Timeline

The beauty of a Grand Teton elopement is that your day can unfold however you want—no pressure, no rush. A simple timeline helps keep things smooth, relaxed, and intentional (plus, we’ll catch the best light!).

Sunrise Example:
5:30 AM – Meet at the trailhead
6:00 AM – First look at sunrise
6:30 AM – Private vows and ceremony
7:00 AM – Portraits
8:00 AM – Breakfast or coffee by the lake
9:00 AM – Optional hike or exploring

Evening Example:
4:00 PM – Getting ready
5:00 PM – First look and portraits
6:00 PM – Golden hour ceremony
6:30 PM – Sunset photos
7:30 PM – Celebrate with dinner, drinks, or a first dance

Want to add a canoe ride, a private chef, or stargazing? Absolutely. I’ll help you create a timeline that reflects your story, while guiding the flow so you can stay present and enjoy every moment.

Grand Teton Elopement Permits, Licenses  and Legal Information

Planning your Grand Teton elopement comes with a few simple steps, but I’ll help make it easy and stress-free.

  • Special Use Permit: You’ll need a $200 permit from the park for your ceremony. It should be submitted at least 30 days ahead, and you’ll choose from approved locations—I’ll help you find the perfect one.
  • Marriage License: Grab your license in person at the Teton County Clerk’s Office in Jackson. It’s $30, no waiting period, and valid for a year. Bring photo ID, and remember—you’ll need an officiant and two witnesses (I’ve got you covered if needed!).
  • Park Guidelines: The park maintains its natural state: no large setups, stay on designated trails, and keep your group small. Most importantly, leave no trace so we all protect this beautiful place.

I’d be so honored to be considered. I bring a mix of heart, experience, and a deep love for what I do—and I’d love to see if I’m the right fit for your day. If you’re curious or just want to start a conversation, you can reach out to me here.

Elopement Extras That Make It Yours

Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean you have to skip the special touches—in fact, a Grand Teton elopement is the perfect chance to create a day that’s uniquely yours. You can write your own vows and read them out loud under the open sky, dance together in a quiet meadow with a little speaker (or no music at all), and toast with champagne or local treats like Wyoming whiskey or fresh pastries from town.

Would you like to bring your pup or a few close loved ones? Absolutely—elopements can be just the two of you or include your favorite people. And if you’re dreaming of a little adventure, you can add a canoe ride on Jenny Lake, a short hike to a hidden spot, or even a post-ceremony horseback ride.
